Method 1: Drying method is also called weightless method
It is the most common method to measure soil moisture. Usually, a wet soil sample of known weight is weighed from an undisturbed soil column taken from the wild, dried in an oven at 105 ° C, and weighed. The water lost by heating represents the soil moisture in the wet sample.
Method 2: Touch screen halogen moisture analyzer method
The principle of the international oven drying method is mainly used. The measurement results are in good agreement with the oven moisture measurement, but the working efficiency is much higher than that of the oven moisture measurement.
Method 3: Resistance method
It is mainly a method that uses the fact that the resistance of certain porous materials such as gypsum, nylon, glass fiber, etc. is related to their water content. When these electrode-embedded blocks are placed in moist soil, they absorb the soil moisture and reach equilibrium. The resistance of block components is determined by their water content, which in turn is determined by the water tension or suction of the nearby soil. The relationship between the resistance reading and the percentage of soil moisture can be determined using a calibration method. These blocks are used to determine the water content of selected locations in the field over time. They give fairly accurate moisture readings in the suction range of 1 to 15 atmospheres.
Method 4: Neutron scattering
It is mainly a unique method for determining soil moisture in the wild. The effectiveness of neutron moisture meters is based on the principle that hydrogen is unique in its ability to dramatically reduce the speed of fast neutrons and scatter them away. This method has obvious limitations on organic matter soils, because many of the combined hydrogens in organic matter exist in forms other than water. In addition, it is not suitable for measuring the soil water content of 0-15 cm in the surface layer.
Method 5: TDR method TDR is also called a reflectometer.
The TDR measurement method was first found to be applicable to the determination of soil volumetric water content, and then it was found to be applicable to the determination of soil salt content. TDR has strong independence, and the measurement results are almost independent of soil type, density, and temperature. The application of TDR technology to the determination of soil moisture status under icing conditions can obtain satisfactory results, while other measurement methods are more difficult. TDR can monitor the soil water and salt content at the same time, and measure it at the same place at the same time. The results are consistent.
