Acidity meter (hereinafter referred to as pH meter) is a widely used chemical analysis instrument that uses hydrogen ion selective electrode to measure the pH value of liquid. The acidity meter uses the potentiometric method to measure the pH value. Its basic principle is: a reversible hydrogen ion indicator electrode connected to an internal reference electrode and an external reference electrode are immersed in a certain solution to form a primary cell, and a battery electromotive force is generated between the internal and external reference electrodes at a certain temperature. This electromotive force is related to the activity of hydrogen ions in the solution, but has little to do with the presence of other ions. The instrument measures the magnitude of the electromotive force and finally converts it into the pH value of the test solution and displays it.
In order to facilitate operation in experiments, the hydrogen ion indicator electrode connected to the internal reference electrode and the external reference electrode are often combined to form a composite electrode.
